Chicken Guy! – Disney Springs, Orlando, Fl

Chicken Guy is a popular restaurant in Disney Springs owned by Guy Fieri. Guy Fieri is a celebrity chef that is known for being very derivative and unoriginal. Yet, he is a food reviewer and showman that many can recognize from his Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives show on Food Network.

The restaurant was big and it was packed with people that day I visited the restaurant, which is typical of the Disney Springs crowd. I remember the restaurant being very cramped, and its layout left much to be desired. However, the layout was ideal for families who want quality fast food without the added expense of the sit-down meal. The menu was impressive. It consisted of different types of chickens and a plethora of dipping sauces (its claim to fame), burgers, salad bowls, kid’s meals, and, of course, the venerable mac n’ cheese dish. There was an extensive selection of food, and the prices were not so bad for the Disney Springs area which, unsurprisingly, is generally pretty overpriced.

Chicken Guy offers their mac ‘n cheese in two different formats: sharable and normal. I ordered the sharable sized Loaded Mac Daddy and Cheese (choice of either crispy or grilled chicken). Let me tell you, the size was certainly sharable; however, it was not so big that I alone couldn’t conquer this impressive display of mac ‘n cheese. Loaded Mac Daddy is covered in super melty cheese (called SMC), crispy chicken, bacon, and green onions. The SMC was a gross mess because it was so melty that the cheese was like a cheese soup. You can see in the picture that the cheese is running off the noodle. I tried to let the cheese cool for a while to see if it would thicken, but it did not. The cheese was drippy, loose, and would not adhere to the noodles which, in my humble opinion, defeats the purposes of the cheese! Furthermore, the bacon simply overpowered the tastebuds such that all one could taste was its smokey, salty flavor. To make matters even worse, they put very little chicken on the dish which was most upsetting. It could have been a redeeming quality in this dish had there been more crispy chicken chunks, but they decided to only put probably three chicken nuggets worth of cut-up chicken.

In conclusion, the best part of this dish (which, my friends, I can hardly call “mac ‘n cheese”) was the serving size. Other than that, I would give this particular iteration of “mac ‘n cheese” (if you wish to call it that) a big thumbs down (with fervent emotion and a snarly expression). At $7.99, this dish was a rip-off because of their little chicken and poor quality of mac and cheese.
